Annotated Bibliographies on Early American Social History Topics

These are annotated bibliographies submitted by the students of the History 4000 special topics class in the History of Antebellum America at Gwinnett University Center during Summer session, 2005. Not all students turned in the required web version of their papers, so this is not a complete listing of all topics explored.

Given that I tried to cram a 15 week class into 6 weeks, these students worked very hard and I enjoyed teaching this course. I hope that they get as much out of the class as I do. [signed] Michael Gagnon

The views expressed in these student web pages are those of the students who wrote them, and do not necessarily reflect the views of their professor, Michael Gagnon, nor the views of the University of Georgia. Only they themselves are responsible for the content of the papers.

Research Papers Using Athens as a Case Study of Antebellum Social History

Below are the final results of several semesters of student research relating events in Athens, Georgia, in the antebellum period to national trends. Not all students turned in the required web version of their papers, so this is not a complete listing of all topics explored. The students themselves, for the most part, constructed these pages. When necessary I opened them up and corrected obvious errors in their construction. For others that would not load, I spent some time opening their source documents and constructed the web pages myself.

As a teacher, I enjoy this class more than any other. I'm always impressed with the intelligence and perserverance of the students.(Although, like all of us, they can continue to work on improving their writing skills.) I can only hope that they get as much out of the class as I do. [signed] Michael Gagnon
