Creating External LinksTo create a link to an external web site, open your paper in Word Pad (which is found in the "accessories" portion of the Start Menu). Then copy the following line in the area of text between your paper and your end notes:

Name of the Website

Next open your browser and connect to the website you want your reader to visit. Next, highlight the URL of the website and then right click on the highlighted area. Choose "copy" from the pull down list. Now come back to Word Pad and high light the black letters of URL of Website, right click and choose "paste" from the pull down menu. Then high light the black letters of the Name of the Website and then type in the actual name you want to identify the external web site by. Then choose ot save your document. Be sure to test it by opening it in your favorite browser, and refreshing it every time you change something about the web formatting of your paper. For instance the link to the conference paper on my website would look like the following:

Michael Gagnon's History Conference Paper

and it would produce the following link: Good Luck!! © Michael Gagnon 2002 |
